The chatbot, named after iconic Club Mascot Spytty the Dog, will operate on the Facebook Messenger platform.
The club worked with Welsh software company Logicdialog to create Spytty the Bot using their fan engagement platform. Spytty will improve customer service in a fun way for County fans looking for information online.
Designed to answer simple fan queries, with the help of Artificial Intelligence, Spytty the Bot will become more sophisticated the more it interacts with fans.
“We are looking forward to launching Spytty the Bot to all of our Supporters very soon.” announced Ben Catton, Newport County AFC Media Officer.
“We have been working with Logicdialog for a while on this project and feel that it will help improve engagement with supporters, as well as provide yet another way fans can find out particular information about the Club and the latest news at #NCAFC.”
The Exiles are the first EFL Club to launch an official Chat Bot, with only AS Roma, Arsenal and AFC Bournemouth being the only other Clubs in world football to provide such a unique service.
Paul Shepherd, chief executive officer at Logicdialog, said: “As a lifelong fan, and ex Newport County Youth player, this project was more a labour of love than anything. We’re delighted to help Newport County drive efficiencies off the pitch through AI powered innovations, and we're chuffed that County now have another channel through which to engage the best fans in the world.”
Ben Catton, the club's Media Officer, said “the bot significantly boosts supporter engagement and offers a new way to advance the club's digital interaction with supporters”.
The launch positioned Newport County as an innovator in fan communication, joining a select group of clubs like AS Roma, Arsenal, and AFC Bournemouth in adopting such advanced technology.
